Absolute Essential Oils
Essential Oils are the highly concentrated,
volatile, aromatic essences of plants. All the countries of the world provide
essential oils, making aromatherapy a truly global therapy. The purest essential
oils come from carefully cultivated and wild grown plants from climatic and
geographic regions throughout the world. The synergies of essential oil
constituents in their natural state are easily adapted to human physiology and
when safely used are free from undesirable side effects. New Directions
Essential Oils are true, undiluted essences extracted directly from a variety of
flowers, fruits, leaves, barks, roots, herbs and spices. They are complex
mixtures of individual chemical constituents, the precise nature and proportions
of which determine it's therapeutic and fragrant properties. Aromatherapy allows
us to benefit from the therapeutic properties of these natural essences, working
in harmony with mind and body. When properly administered, the effects of
essential oils can be stimulating and relaxing, depending on the oils selected.
They can soothe and refresh the mind, beautify the skin and body, stimulate the
senses or induce feelings of calmness. The idea behind aromatherapy is, first,
to find the scents, unique for each individual, that evoke positive sensory
feelings and emotions; and then to introduce those scents into our everyday life
to enhance well-being.
Cautions: Avoid contact with sensitive areas, such as eyes. Citrus oils
are photosensitive and should not be applied prior to sun exposure. During
pregnancy, use only with advise from a trained Aromatherapist. For external use
only. Keep all bottles Out of Reach of Children.
Absolutes are similar to Essential Oils,
only their method of extraction is much more complex. Their fragrances are also
much more concentrated and complex.
There is very little oil in the plant parts being used. As an example, it
requires over 30 Roses to produce 1 drop of Rose Absolute. Because of this low
yield, food grade solvents are used to extract the oil; the solvent is then
removed at the end of the process. Traditional steam extraction is ineffective
in extracting these low yielding fragrances and the heat from the steam often
puts the quality of the absolute oil at risk.
In many cases those unaccustomed with Absolutes will find the initial fragrance
too intense. For this reason they are best evaluated in a dilution. Users will
find that while an Essential Oil is concentrated, Absolutes are even more so! We
offer both the pure Absolutes directly from the sources as well as Absolutes in
a 3% dilution of Jojoba.
